Knowing the hope

Alright, tonight I want to talk about hope. You know what hope is? Esperanza. I want to talk about hope, because that's what I was thinking about this afternoon. I was thinking about hope. But what is hope? What do you feel like hope is? It's hope. What is it? Is it like a girl's name? Is it a verb? Yes. It's a noun? Yes. Do you have hope? Do you have hope? Do you have esperanza na sua vida? Do you have esperanza na sua vida? What do you hope for? What is it you hope for? Do you hope for, I don't know, a new car? Do you hope for a good wife? Hope is a wish or desire accompanied by confident expectation of its fulfillment. Most people today limit their hope to this world, to what we see here, to limit their hope to their marriage, to have a good marriage to their family, to have a nice family. They hope that they'll have a good job where they make lots of money. They hope that they have lots of things like a nice house and nice furniture and lots of food in their nice refrigerator. and they hope to have good health.

And usually when you talk to people about hope, what is it you hope for? Everybody talks about this world. I hope this, I hope that, I hope this other. And it's all about here. All of our hopes are in this life. hope to have hope. Unfortunately, the church is so messed up and so confused and so lost that the church is offering this world, people who are dying and going to hell, this church today is offering them hope for this life. No, you can have money, you can have a house. God wants to give you a car. God wants you to have good health. That's what the church is selling the world today. Incrível que há. É raramente que você ouve de um público, um cara falando de eternidade. A igreja está tão confusa hoje em dia, tão perdida, que ela nem sabe qual é o propósito dela, qual é a palavra que Deus tem dado para ela oferecer a esse mundo. Esse mundo é preciso. A gente fica oferecendo coisas temporárias. E daí, se tem boa saúde, está curado, está rica, está com família boa e vai para o inferno.

someone who has nothing? What do you say to someone who doesn't have any hope for retaining something? You go to Africa, or go to Ethiopia, and you go to a village, and it's full of children starving to death. They don't have enough food to maybe even last today. What hope do we give them? Do we tell them that Jesus wants to give you a new car? Do we tell them that Jesus wants you to be rich? Do we tell them that Jesus wants you to have a good marriage? Is that the hope we give them as a church today? Because that's the hope that's been exported around the world. And unfortunately, it's come to Brazil now, and now we have this stupid

prosperity gospel where all we talk about is here. Brazil doesn't need money. Brazil doesn't need bigger houses. Brazil doesn't need things. Brazil needs a hope that goes beyond here. But what do we offer for a people that don't have anything? And don't have a spirit of anything? If we go to Ethiopia, Kenya, Algeria, one of those countries that are in war, that have literally millions of people dying drinking the hope and we we hope the hope we offer the hope we hope the hope we hope the hope we hope we hope essa posta de evangelho de prosperidade, e fala, oh, aqui, Jesus quer que você seja rico,

que o povo de Deus não dá uma merda nenhuma, pelo fato, que eles estão indo para o inferno, ou que eles estão morrendo de fome, e o pior disso, que daqui a cinco anos, ninguém aqui vai lembrar,

sobre os oito mil crianças indo para,

And this tour lady, little short Irish lady, with glasses, kind of looked like John Lennon. But she stood up on this rock. And she started to talk about everything that was there in the church. I started to like get... My eyes started to fill up with tears. She was so passionate about... Because she started to talk about St. Patrick. You know St. Patrick? St. Patrick? St. Patrick? St. Patrick? Patrick, I don't know what to say. The guy who was the first missionary in Ireland.

When he went to Ireland or Ireland, he got there and he found a people poor. Poor. They had nothing. Absolutely nothing. And he's looking at them going, What can I give them? I can't change their life. I can't change their life. I don't have to change their life. I don't have to change their lives. Everybody there in Ireland, in that time, in 432, when he went there, had nothing. Literally, nothing. And even hope, nothing. What would he say to them? And he said, The only thing he could say, I can't give you anything for this life. But I can promise you that beyond this life, there's more. That there's something better beyond this life.

There's eternity. There's heaven. And that's the hope that we should have. Not hope in things, in possessions, in money. But hope in salvation. Hope in heaven. Hope in eternity with Jesus. And I listened to her and I watched her. And I went, Wow! Because that's the gospel. That's what Jesus was talking about. That's what he came for. To give us a hope. A hope of salvation. A hope of a future. With him. It doesn't have a thing to do with anything. That the church tries to pretend it is today. It's not that. It's not that. It never was that. And that's why we say, What do you hope? When people say, I hope to have a good job.

No! Why? Why? Why? Because I love this world. I want everything I can have in this world. This world is everything to me. That's why all my hope is in this world. And we've got to say, No! Because there's more. It's not here. It's there. It's beyond here. And if we sell out who we are, And we sell everything to get more here, But we lose out there. It was a waste. We lost what was important. Because there is an eternity.

Existum eternidade. There is an eternity. Independent of how your life goes. If it's bad or if it's good or if it's totally rotten. The thing is that there's something better to come. Or not. Depending on the decisions that you make. But there is an eternity. What is your hope? What is your hope? Do you hope To go to heaven? Is your hope an eternity?

Não é algo que eu tenho me treinado a falar no espelho. mas algo que eu acredito. Algo que queima em mim. Algo que eu estava esperando a oportunidade de falar para você.

The reason for the hope that we have, if we give it to somebody and there's no passion in what we say, if there's nothing in our eyes, like flames of passion in our eyes and passion in our voice, if someone says, why do you believe in Jesus? And you say, well, because I heard this story when I was a little kid and I thought it was kind of neat. If we don't have something in us that says, you know what, I believe this. How are they going to believe?

How is someone going to believe something that we don't even believe? And maybe that's the problem. Maybe that's the biggest problem with the church today. The church doesn't believe. what she says she believes. She might believe it in her head, but she doesn't believe it in her heart. She's not passionate about it. She's not consumed by it.

Ephesians 1, 17-19. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you may know Him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints and His incomparably great power for us who believe. Do we know the hope? Do we know it? Do we know it in an experiential way that I felt it? I know it. I've experienced it. I know what the inheritance is. I know what the glorious inheritance is. I know what the great power is

that He has. I know what it is because it's real. It's not something somebody told me and convinced me but it's something that I know in my life. So it's falando de conhecer aquela esperança. Você conhece a esperança que tem. Você conhece a herança gloriosa dos santos. você conhece o grande poder que aqueles que creem tem ou algo que nós estamos convencidos porque Ele nos fala e a gente acredita e acabou.

Nós creemos porque então não temos experimentado ou creemos porque temos ouvido e fomos convencidos. Porque uma igreja convencida jamais influenciará o mundo. convencido não faz nada. Tem que ter algo real. Tem que ter algo que é a nossa realidade que queima em nós. Algo que nos leva a pirar. Quando alguém pergunta não é ouvir. Eu sei. Eu tenho experimentado algo além. Eu conheço pela experiência. com certeza nenhum dos doze não é os onze né depois Judas mas doze com Paulo o resto né morreram por algo pelo qual eles foram convencidos. eles morreram por algo que eles acreditavam por experiência. Eles sabem. não é que

por algo que eles são convencidos. Ninguém gives their vida for something that someone convinced them of. It's something that they have to believe. It has to be something that is so real to them that not even death can take it away from them. When we see the twelve disciples and apostles and Paul and all of them dying, giving their lives for it, it wasn't something they were convinced of. It was something they knew. They knew the hope. They had experienced the hope. Jesus is the hope of the world, and not only in this life, but the one to come. Jesus é a esperança do mundo, não somente nessa vida, mas também naquela que virá.

Amen? Lord, we thank You that You are the hope of the world, that You are our hope, God. You are everything that we hope for, everything that we hope in. God, I pray that You would make Yourself so real to us, God, that we would know the hope in an experiential way, that we would know You in a real way, God, that we wouldn't live a Christian life just as somebody convinced of some truth, with somebody who knows the truth, somebody who knows what's real, somebody who's felt the power of the cross. God, we thank You that You are a God that desires for us to know You. Lord, I just pray that You would reveal Yourself to us this night.

show us who You are.

God, give us and experience, God, with You that we can know the hope and that we can be prepared, Lord God, to always tell somebody why we have that hope. For Your glory, Lord, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
