World Mission Statistics

The world’s population is increasing at a rate of 10,300 per hour, 243,300 per day, 100 million per year. 

There are 6.2 billion people in the world today. 

In 15 years that number will rise to 7.2 billion. 

95% of those people will live in poor nations, in crowded mega-cities. 

There are 30 times more people today than in the apostle Paul’s day. 

The death rate worldwide is 3 souls per second, 180 per minute, 19,400 per hour, 249,600 per day, 7,488,000 per month, 91,104,000 per year. 

When Christ was born, there were 150 million people in the world. 

When Christ was crucified, there were 250 million people. 

In 1650, (1,617 years later) there were 500 million. 

200 years later, in 1850, there were 1 billion. 

In 1930 (80 years later) there were 2 billion. 

Thirty years later in 1960, there were 3 billion. 

By 1975, there were 4 billion. 

12 years later in 1987, there were five billion. 

The 6 billion mark was reached in 1999. 

Did you realize that half of the people alive today were born after 1975, and 75% of all the people in the world since Adam and Eve are alive in the world today. 

Charles Spurgeon and D.L. Moody won over 2 million souls to Christ, yet there were only 1 billion people alive then. 

Life expectancy is also rising. In 1965 it was 54 years. In 1985 it was 62 years. In 1997 it was 75 years. 

Over 100,000 Americans reached the age of 100 in 2000. 

It is estimated that we are reaching the world with the gospel at the rate of 3-4 million souls per year. 

It is estimated that over half of the world’s population have never heard the gospel of Christ. 

Yet, it is estimated that only 10% of those who hear the gospel will ever respond to it. 

Of the 180 souls who die each minute, 125 of those will die and go to hell. That is 7,500 an hour, 180,000 per day, 6,400,000 per month, 65,700,000 per year that will die and go to hell. 

People are dying and going to hell at a rate of the population of Polk county every 12 hours. 

If the earth’s population was reduced to 100 (with the same ratios), there would be 57 Asians, 21 Europeans, 7 North Americans, 7 South Americans, and 8 Africans. 30 could read and 70 could not read. 80 would live in poverty. One would have a college education. 

China’s population is 1.3 billion. If we had a service like Pentecost each week where 300 were saved and baptized, it would take 7984 years to reach China with the gospel. 

If we could line up single file every missionary who even bordered on fundamentalism, the line would stretch 15 mile. That sounds impressive until you realize that the world’s population is growing at a rate of 139 miles per day. 

There are over 3 million villages in the world without a gospel witness. 

There are over 34,000 independent Baptist churches in the US. In 1983 there were 2,696 independent Baptist missionaries on the field, in four years that number dropped to 1,968. A drop of 728 men. Combined that with the average age being 50 and you can see the problem. 

There are over 4000 ABA churches. Last year the ABA reported 175 missionaries, with 36 of those here in the US. That’s one missionary for every 23 churches. With an estimated 1.5 million people who associate with the ABA, that is 4 one hundred thousandths of one percent of folks association with the ABA who turn out to be missionaries. 

30% of the world’s population is under the age of 18. 

80% of youth do not grow up in a Christian home. The other 20% usually by name only. 

60,000 people die of malnutrition each year. 

America’s population in 2000 was 281,421,906... 5% of the world’s population, yet 90% of the missionaries in the world are from the US. 

It’s estimated that 76 million Americans are Christian in name only. 

96 million Americans have no religious affiliation whatsoever. 

3,500 - 4,000 churches in America close their doors each year. 

There are 3.5 to 4 billion Bibles in circulation worldwide. 

In 1993 there were 60 million Bibles and 87 million New Testaments printed. 

There are 6,528 languages spoken in the world today. 4,564 have no Bible. 745 only have the New Testament. 

In America there is a new perversion of the Bible produced every three days.

The job of getting the gospel to the world is an astounding one, and one that all of us should take more seriously than we have in the past. JUST A THOUGHT!”

Today, 645 million or (11%) of the world population are Evangelicals or Bible believing Christians.
