Don’t look at the woman in red!

In the movie the Matrix, there is a scene in which Morpheus takes Neo into a simulated Matrix program in order to explain the Matrix and how it works. As they are walking in a black and white world and as Morpheus is speaking, Neo becomes noticeably distracted by a seductively dressed woman in red passing by and looking at him in such as a way to get his attention. At which point Morpheus agitated stops and asks him, “Are you listening to me or looking at the women in red?” Neo, stumbling to respond, is then interrupted by Morpheus who tells him to look again. And when Neo turns to look, a gun meets him right in his face.

Seemingly insignificant in the whole of the film, the spiritual truths found in this scene are huge. How many times in our lives has the devil sent that woman or man dressed in red to pass by in front of us? And how many times when God himself was trying to talk to us? Too many times I am sure. The real issue is not how many times he devil has sent them, but how many times have we looked? And here we have the discussion, or better yet, question: “Is it a sin to look?” I grew up hearing the phrase, “You can look but you can’t touch.” To the human rational, this statement may seem profound and true. But, the human rationale is not the plum by which we measure things.

Jesus said in Mt 5:28, “Anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Jesus took the idea of adultery one-step further in saying that the looking at and thinking of a woman in an impure manner were just as much sin as the actual act. It is all a matter of the heart. And that is what Jesus is concerned with.

This issue is generally regarded as one that only men deal with, but that is simply not true. Just as many woman look at men’s bodies with more than the look of a mother to her son as men look at women wrongly. I can’t begin to count how many near accidents I have seen as a result of someone craning their neck to look behind them for one last glimpse of someone’s rear end. Humorous as it may seem, it is in reality a very dangerous and grave sin. The reason being this, it all starts with your eyes. It is a very dangerous path that leads to even larger sins and eventually to hell itself. When you turn to look, the gun is right there in satan’s hand, waiting to meet you.

And it’s not only in the world outside your home. Thanks to modern technology, primarily the computer, it has become even easier to sin with your eyes and you don’t even have to leave home. Right there in the privacy of your own home, you can see naked men and women. Now, you tell me, do you suppose that it’s OK, since you are only looking and not touching? Obviously, you can’t touch as the image is only there on your computer screen. But, how many have been led to then fantasize about that naked person on the computer and wind up masturbating? I dare to guess that a good majority. That’s the danger in the look. To see is not the sin as we see things every day in life that we have or had no intention in seeing, at which point we must merely turn our heads and keep going. The sin is when we intentionally look again and then the image becomes imbedded in our mind only to later bear bad fruit in the form of fantasizing and masturbation. My fear is that too many people are trapped and bound by such subtle sins in life, sins that can be so easily hidden and yet very embarrassing to admit. Thus leaving many in their own self made prison to live fruitless lives full of guilt and condemnation.

Worse yet, what will happen to the one who has for some time fantasized about a certain situation if it should present itself in real life. After having “trained” for so long for that very hour, do you honestly think that they will be able to stand up against it and flee? I doubt it. And that is the danger.

Legality is given to the devil in the oh, so subtle, “checking out” phase. Small sins unchecked always lead to larger ones. He who has not trained himself to say no in the little neighborhood fights will not find the strength to say “no” in the middle of the war. A little crack in the door (and that is what the devil is looking for) soon becomes a door wide open.

Radical? You bet, to the extreme. Being radical in this area is the only way to be guaranteed the victory. And let me take the time to say that God is not looking for sissy, weak-willed Christians in order to win this world. He is looking for radical, committed, sanctified and holy believers. He is looking for a generation of youth who are going to walk in holiness and in an anointing that is going to turn this world upside down. You are that generation. Start walking in holiness and start utilizing the anointing that God is putting into your life, an anointing to win souls, heal the sick and raise the dead. Holiness is a decision. It is your decision. It is a decision between spiritual life and death, sitting on God’s bench or playing in the game, being used or left behind.

No filme o Matrix, é uma cena em o que Morpheus levou Neo num programa simulado para o explicar o Matrix e como ele funciona. Enquanto eles estavam andando e Morpheus estava falando, Neo, obviamente, ficou distraído pela uma mulher num vestido vermelho e muito indecente. Nesse ponto, Morpheus, agitado, parou e perguntou para ele, “Você está me escutando ou está olhando para a mulher no vestido vermelho?” Neo, tentando achara as palavras, foi interruptido pelo Morpheus que falou para ele, “Olhar de novo.” E quando Neo virou para olhar, ele encontrou com uma arma no seu rosto.

Essa cena, que aparecer tão insignificante no total do filme, está cheia de verdades espirituais. Quantas vezes em nossas vidas, o diabo tem mandado o homem ou mulher vestido no vermelho para nos distrair? E quantas vezes enquanto o próprio Deus estava tentando falar conosco? Vezes de mais eu acho. O assunto real aqui não é “quantas vezes que o diabo tam mandado alguém”, mas, “quantas vezes que nós já olhamos para aquela pessoa”? E aí nós temos a nossa discussão ou melhor ainda, a nossa pergunta: "É um pecado de olhar”? A onde eu cresci, houve uma frase bem conhecida, “Pode olhar, só não pode tocar”. Para o racional humano isso aparecer a ser até uma coisa muita profunda e verdadeira, mas, nós não medimos as coisas pelo o raciocino humano.

Jesus no Mateus 5:28 falou, “quem olhar para uma mulher e desejar possuí-la já cometeu adultério no seu coração”. Jesus levou o pecado de adultério mais um passo em falando que só para olhar e pensar numa maneira impura era tanta pecado no seu coração quanto o ato atual. É uma coisa do coração. E isso é a coisa que importa para Jesus.

Esse assunto é geralmente um que as pessoas acham que somente os homens têm que com lidar. Mas, isso, simplesmente, não é a verdade. As mulheres tanto quanto os homens olham para os corpos das pessoas do sexo oposto com olhos além do que aqueles de uma mãe olhando para o seu bebê, ou para dizer erradamente. Eu nem posso contar todos os acidentes que eu já vi quase acontecer por causa de alguém tentando olhar para trás par ter pelo menos mais uma vista do traseiro de alguém. Pode aparecer engraçado, mas, verdadeiramente não é. Na realidade é uma coisa muita perigosa e um pecado grave. A razão é porque todo começa com o seu olhar. É um caminho perigoso que pode te levar aos pecados maiores e eventualmente ao inferno mesmo. Quando você virar para olhar, a arma está lá na mão de satanás, bem na tua cara.

E isso não está somente no mundo fora da tua casa. Graças à tecnologia moderna, no maior parte, o computador, é bem mais fácil para você pecar com os seus olhos e você nem tem que sair da tua casa. Bem aí, na privacidade da tua própria casa, você pode olhar para homens e mulheres nu. Bem, me fala, você acha que é tudo bem porque você está simplesmente olhando e não tocando? Obviamente, você não pode tocar porque a imagem está na tela e não no real. Mas, quantas pessoas depois olhando foram levados a fantasiar a respeito daquela pessoa nu na tela e acabam masturbando? Eu acho que é bem provável a maioria. Isto é o perigo em olhar. De ver não é o pecado. Todo dia nós vemos coisas que não devíamos, mas, sem propósito. E nesse ponto, nós precisamos virar as nossas cabeças e continuar. O pecado é quando nós, de propósito, olhar de novo e aquela imagem fica gravado na nossa mente só para nos dar fruto mal mais tarde na forma de fantasiar e masturbar. Meu medo é que muitos estão amarrados e presos nesse pecados tão sutil, pecados que podem ser escondidos facilmente, mas muito vergonhoso de admitir. E praticamente deixando aquele numa prisão feito por ele mesmo para viver uma vida sem fruto e cheia de vergonha e condenação.

Pior ainda, o que acontecerá com aquele que por um tempo já tem fantasiado sobre uma certa situação se o negócio real aparecer na sua frente? Depois “treinando” por tanto tempo, você honestamente acha que vai ter forças suficientes de enfrenta-lo ou fugir? Eu duvido. E aí existe o perigo.

Legalidade está dada ao diabo no passo de olhar. Os pecados pequenos sem concertar sempre levam para pecados maiores. Aquele que não se treinou para as brigas na vizinhança não vai achar forças suficientes a dizer “não” na meia da guerra. Uma brechinha na porta (e isso é o que o diabo está procurando) virá uma porta completamente aberta.

Radical? Sem duvida. Somente sendo radical nessa área vai te garantir a vitória. E deixa me falar, Deus Não está procurando crentes molhes e fracos para usar para ganhar esse mundo. Ele está procurando os crentes radicais, compromissados, santificados e santos. Ele está procurando uma geração de jovens e adolescentes que vão andar na santidade e numa unção que vai impactar esse mundo. Você é essa geração! Começa andar na santidade e começar utilizando a unção que Deus está colocando na sua vida. Uma unção para ganhar os perdidos, curar os enfermos e ressuscitar os mortos. Santidade é uma decisão. É a sua decisão. É uma decisão entre vida espiritual e a morte, esquentando o banco de Deus ou jogando no jogo, sendo usado ou deixado para trás.
